Craftinsure Nationwide 2: Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club.

Last weekend was the 2nd Craftinsure GBR topper nationwide at Derwent Resevoir, most of the Scottish team had arrived on the Friday night and set up caravans and tents and rigged boats in order to have no stress for the first counter event this year. The competitors were briefed at 10.30 on Saturday morning and all got ready for a 12.00 start. It was blowing a consistent 15knot wind, so all the team went out with a smile on their faces. The start was, as usual, postponed and finally after a chilly hour of waiting around the race committee started the first race. The competitors spent 6hours on the water as the committee had decided to do 4 races on Saturday, as the wind was not looking promising for the next day. All four races were completed and the shattered sailors headed into shore for a well-deserved shower, which only a few lucky people got as the clubs water supply cut off and no water was supplied to the club for the rest of the night. The sailors however still managed to stay high spirited and all had a nice relaxed night enjoying the quiz the club put on and then sitting chatting until retiring for a well deserved nights sleep.

Sunday morning came too quickly for the tired team. The first race was scheduled to start at 10 and as there was a light breeze the fleet was on the water at 9.30 heading to the course. Although the wind died to almost nothing resulting in a shortened course for the 2nd start and a tricky decision for the race committee. The fleet headed in and had to wait an hour in the hot sunshine (not that anyone complained) before it was announced that all racing was abandoned! The floods of sailors jammed into the small changing rooms all rushing to get changed and get their boats packed away. The prize giving followed soon after and the winner ‘ Michael Becket’ thanked the competitors for a good weekend racing.

I think that all the Scottish team will agree with me when I say that it was a very good weekends sailing and all those who competed did very well, we ended up with a good set of Scottish results (even Ian who unfortunately didn’t complete any races due to breaking his thumb in during Race 1). To all who was there WELL DONE!
