Prestwick Results

Well done Prestwick Sailing Club for running an excellent, fuss free, no nonsense open meeting for all the Youth and Junior Classes (Optimist, Topper, Laser 4.7, Radial, 420 and Feva) plus a few "older" children in their Full Rig Lasers.

Unfortunately the double handers were a very late addition so one or two who would have sailed arrived with Toppers or Lasers instead but it was good to see 420s and Fevas joining the junior circus. We hope to see you joining us on a regular basis next year?

Racing on Saturday was held in a fairly steady Force 3 from the South and from the beach it looked an excellent days racing. I counted thirty nine Toppers with fifteen sailing in the Regatta Fleet. Overnight leader was Alexander Still with Jessica Campbell in second then just one point seperating the next three (Joanna Barrie, Aaron Murray and Joanne Foster). Sunday was forecast to be windier but with the wind from the South East it was deceptively flat on the bay as the boats warily launched. Race four was held in a shifty Force 3/4 with gusts blowing through but by mid day the wind filled in to a brisk 5 with gusts and a building sea.

By the final race the top two was decided and Jessica headed in for an early shower. Samantha Foster had retired from the first race of the day in the Laser Radial Fleet with a nasty head knock whilst in second place (you have to really duck for those gybes Sammi!) but could not resist joining in for race six and led for a couple of rounds before dropping out. Joanne who was loving the "Garda - like" breeze had done enough to climb to 3rd overall and only had to stay within one place of Aaron in the final race to secure her first 5.3 rig travellers podium spot but capsized in a huge gust on the final round and despite a rapid recovery it was enough for Aaron to grap third overall by one point.
