Scottish Topper Squad sailor Patrick Shellcock has been showing the Seniors How It’s Done, at the Laser 3000 Nationals.
Patrick returned from the 2009 Laser 3000 Nationals at Grafham Water, Cambridgeshire, last weekend clutching the Junior National Champion Shield.
Sailing alongside fellow pupils from Sedberg School, Robin Shellcock (P) and Harry Batty (P), Patrick judged the Force 2 to 3 winds on Saturday brilliantly, to negotiate the very congested pre-start and secure a good position at the outset. Although a rig problem forced retirement from the first race, they came 8th and 9th in the next two races on Saturday. The next day, Patrick pulled out an even more impressive performance to enjoy what looked to the spectator’s eye to be equal 4th with two other boats, but which officially judged him as 6th. This was good enough not only to gain Sedbergh School 3rd place in the Silver Fleet, but to claim the coveted Junior Shield. Well done Patrick - perhaps you were listening during those cold winter sessions at Cumbrae! We are all proud of you.
